Frequently asked questions for begginers…

What do my chickens need?

Can I only have 1 Chicken?

Chickens are flock animals, they like to have other chickens with them.

If you are a beginner we would always suggest initially getting a minimum of 3 chickens so that they will always have company.

How much space do my chickens need?

Ideally you need a minimum of 30cm of roosting space per bird inside.

Outside you need a minimum of 1m2 of run space per bird.

When will my chickens start laying eggs?

All hens are classed as point of lay from the time they reach 16 weeks old.

Depending on the breed of your chicken most will start to lay at around 20 weeks old. Some however will not start laying until they are a bit older especially pure breed hens.

Weather, environment and diet can all affect the time too.

Chickens need a well  ventilated, dry, clean and safe coop to roost at night.

Chickens need access to fresh, clean drinking water at all times.
